Soothing and Brightening Face Mask

Susan Salinas

As the weekend slowly rolls in we do the best we can to make it last... It's almost spring and New York City is covered in ice and melting snow, the day is gloomy and my skin is begging for some TLC. As I prepare to curl on my couch with a book and a cozy blanket I run my hands through my face and notice that my skin feels a little tight, usually a sign of dehydration, so I grab a giant glass of water with a squeeze of lemon and I go through my kitchen to prepare a little pick me up for my skin... and a sandwich while I'm there 'cause why not?!

This recipe is fairly simple but incredibly soothing and I'm sure most of you already have the ingredients in your kitchen. I mixed a bit of our Rose Rejuvenating Mask because I love the toning properties of hibiscus but if you don't have that already available that's ok, you can skip it or order it here for next time!

About this mask: Oatmeal is full of vitamins, nutrients and lipids it's highly hydrating and soothing specially for those with sensitive skin and or skin allergies. Oatmeal also contains saponins which is a natural chemical that serves as a cleansing agent.

Honey is one of the most amazing substances in the world, it's full of antioxidants and it's antibacterial and antiseptic properties help relieve redness and irritations, it also helps draw moisture into your skin cells to keep your skin hydrated and glowing.

Milk: it contains lactic acid which is a form of AHA acids (yea those fancy ones you always hear about) it helps boost collagen production, fight off wrinkles and provide a very light exfoliation. The same properties can be found in yogurt so no worries!

What you need:

2 tbs of oats

1 teaspoon of honey

1 teaspoon of Rose Mask

1 teaspoon of milk or plain yogurt (regular or greek)

How to:

Put the oats in a blender, food processor or coffee grinder, if you don't have any of the above no worries try to break them apart with a mortar or the bottom of a plastic cup, the point is to get it as close to a fine powder as possible.

Mix all the ingredients until you form a paste, adjust if needed it should be a creamy consistency which will vary depending how fine you grind your oats. Add more or less milk/yogurt if needed.

Apply with a mask brush or with your fingers, if you have extra share with a loved one or go ahead and apply it to your neck and décolletage :) Allow to sit for 10-15 min and rinse with warm water.

Follow with a toner and a serum or light face cream. We recommend this and this.

That's it! Just a few minutes to spoil yourself and allow your skin to absorb all these amazing nutrients. Feel free to ask me any questions or leave any comments below if you post a pic use the #ixscbeauty for a chance to win a Rejuvenating Rose Mask
